Werner Karrasch - Photographs 1991 - 2016

A Commemorative Exhibition by the Vikings Ship Museum in Roskilde's Photographer Werner Karrasch

For 25 years, Werner Karrasch has, as a photographer at the Viking Ship Museum, documented ship construction to the smallest detail, perilous voyages on the high seas, tar burning in extreme temperatures and finds from underwater excavations.

Photographer Werner Karrasch is not a free bird as we say here in Scandinavia. His tasks are guided by professional interests and needs, and the pictures he takes are a photo documentary experience, that reflects his thorough knowledge of the subject matter: Viking Ships.

Throughout his long career at the Viking Ship Museum in Roskilde Werner Karrasch has developed a trademark imagery that epitomises the museum's profile and is a strong visual contribution to our cultural heritage. He captures the moment in a universe full of impressions, moods and activity - and perpetuates light, sounds, smells and life in a still image. The photographs do not always reveal their complete stories. Instead they offer the viewer a variety of cues, inspiring floating dreams and tales to take their own form.

The documentary is sometimes magical and has its own poetic dimension.

Werner Karrasch - fotografier 1991 - 2016
