Bie Design is incorporating authentic historic images and strong personal story telling. Based on a historic person or a period in history, ties and scarves are made of 100% silk. Kajta Bie, the woman behind Bie Design, has visited some of the beautiful Danish castles, then photographed patterns carved into woodwork, monograms shaped in wrought iron all inspired by the colors and the mood. Hans Christian Andersen lived from 1805 to 1875 and wrote apart from his 200 fairytales also poems, novels and accounts of his travels. He was a prodigious draughtsman and famous for his beautiful collages and poetic paper cuts. Bie Design creates the perfect cultural gifts. She is not following a specific trend but instead finds inspiration in the colours, feelings and moods of the historic period. You will see graphics based on the look and ideas of old manuscripts, drawings and ornaments. It’s a mix of Scandinavia’s past, present and future trends and story.
As a child Katja Bie loved Hans Christian Andersen’s stories and as an adult she was overwhelmed by what a great artist he was. The textiles in the Hans Christian Andersen Series are designed around his own amazing image universe. Katja Bie has worked to combine his handwriting and the poetic paper silhouettes with the colours in his collages.
After Katja Bie graduated from the Danish Design Schools Textile Course in 2001, she has been working freelance as Bie Design in both the costume industry and for various theatres. One of these being full-time on The Royal Danish Theatres costume department.
The style is quirky and bold, but still solidly grounded in the well known universe of Hans Christian Andersen, perfect for your mother, sister or mother-in-law. See more below.
