Increasingly we see Museum Directors take centre stage when it comes to publicising their Museums - and who better to do so?
To this end the new director of the Danish National Gallery, Mikkel Bogh, has taken it one step further and created the book "Director's Choice - Statens Museum for Kunst", where the director gives his take on his favourite works of art.
Mikkel Bogh shares his fascination and knowledge about the works and the stories behind them, and brings to life works of art we might otherwise just have tramped by, as we ploughed through the museum.
The book, available in SMK's bookstore, is part of the popular book series Director's Choice. Other publications in the same concept are from the directors of the National Gallery in London and Museu Calouste Gulbenkian in Lisbon.
SMK version includes works from the Renaissance to contemporary artists such as Vilhelm Hammershøi, Rembrandt van Rijn and C. W. Eckersberg - all with commentaries by Mikkel Bogh.
