Pomegranates and green and blue grapes on a marble frame, 1833
Oil on canvas, 24 x 31 cm.

The kernels almost topple out of the open pomegranate, and the small array of fruit and juice.  Dansk guldalders blomstermaler par excellence, Johan Laurentz Jensen - called Blomster-Jensen - has signed on the stenkarmen. The work is an example that he not only painted flowers but also hunting and fruit pieces like here. Jensen has carefully observed the glare of light in the white fruits, the transparency of the grapes and the crispness of the leaves. The painting is both sensual and well-composed in its eternal beauty.
