HEART – Herning Museum of Contemporary Art
If you ever happen to find yourself planning a trip in to the wilds of Jutland, make sure you visit the HEART Museum in Herning!
One of the newest Nordic museums HEART Museum opened its doors in 2009, in a new building designed by the American architect Steven Holl.
The museums full name is bit of a mouthful so to give the organisation a more human and emotional touch, a name was needed that truly reflects the identity and the mission of the Museum; hence Herning + Art = HEART. The visual inspiration was created by architect Steven Holl and has its roots in the textile history of the area and the building’s previous role as a shirt factory – the walls remind you of ribbons and the roof bears more than a passing resemblance to a collection of shirts. Building on that theme Kontrapunkt customised a complementary typeface that is used on all visual material at HEART.
HEART’s collection is composed of Danish and international conceptual and experimental art from the 1930s till today. The Italian artist Piero Manzoni is a collection mainstayalong with works of art by by Paul Gadegaard, Ingvar Cronhammar, Bjørn Nørgaard, Joseph Beuys, Mario Merz, Knud Hvidberg, John Kørner, and Troels Wörsel among others.
